World's longest and widest multi-pylon cable stayed bridge bridge now exists over the Huangzhou bay in China.
1. It runs about 6.2 miles or 10 km long over the sea. It took the men around 4 years to complete this really long bridge. Construction completed on July 6, 2013.
2. It is an eight lane structure that opened to traffic in mid-july.
3. This is probably the world's first and presently the only multi-pylon bridge. A cable-stayed bridge has one of more towers where the cables are attached to support the bridge's deck.
4. The bridge is intended for motorists travelling above speeds of 60 miles per hour; vehicles with a maximum speed of less than 45 miles per hour are not allowed to cross.
5. The main body of the bridge is 2,560 feet (780.29 metres) wide.
6. A man named Li Xinqiao was the first to cross the bridge. Many posters were quick to point out that it was an ironic coincidence that a man named “Xinqiao”, which can mean “new bridge” in Chinese, was the first to cross.
